Day 7 : Crianlarich to Bridge of Orchy (13 miles)

Parked at Crianlarich (parking at station and elsewhere too in village). Took 10.20 train north to Bridge of Orchy and walked back. Left Bridge of Orchy at 11.15 and arrived at Crianlarich at 17.30. Minimal stops en route. Coffee/ loo stops at Bridge of Orchy Hotel, Green Welly Shop garage at Tyndrum and Strathfillan Wigwams between Crianlarich and Tyndrum.

Pictures start at Bridge of Orchy and go back to Crianlarich

Bridge of Orchy Hotel ;
and the well stocked bar and cakes at Bridge of Orchy hotel. Very nice hotel - they do good take-away coffee too !

and a lovely view from the restaurant :

Bridge of Orchy station:

At Tyndrum - the Green Welly Stop is great - the garage provides everything you could need - including toilets - and food etc and some camping necessities. There are other places to eat in Tyndrum as well, but when you have a dog with you, your choices are slightly restricted ! In fact Tika our dog came from near here in Appin !

South of Tyndrum - lovely heather clad walk with great views - inspired to sing the Uist Tramping Song :
Come along, come along, let us foot it out together
Come along, come along, be it fair or stormy weather
With the hills o' home before us and the purple o' the heather
We'll sing a happy chorus, come along

Stopped for a rest at the Lochan of the Lost Sword where there was a convenient sword shaped bench to sit on !

Some pictures from St Fillan's Wigwams campsite which is next to or part of a farm that is part of the Rural Agriculture College SRUC :

The ruin of Saint Fillan's Church or Priory

The old graveyard:

Saint Fillan

Older sign for the West Highland way saying how it was based on drove roads, military roads, old coaching roads and disused railway lines.

So the route photographs here start at Bridge of Orchy and return to Crianlarich.

Crossing River Fillan - fairly near the Strathfillan Wigwams

Foxglove in the forest:

Panorama looking towards Crianlarich from the section beyond Crianlarich - a lovely wide view requiring me to construct a panorama ! (Click on it to expand it)

A nice picnic or camping spot "just" north of Crianlarich - can't quite remember the distance - probably within a mile north of Crianlarich

Crianlarich Station - the trains from Glasgow split here and one half goes to Oban, the other half on to Fort William and Mallaig. The reverse happens on the way back to Glasgow.
